Meet Carol

Memoir and short fiction writer. Collector of eclectic people and experiences, an endless seeker, a woman who pays attention.

More about by background and approach

Carol draws inspiration from her family, her unconventional childhood travelling the world as a military brat and her love of travel. She is in the process of working on a collection of memoir pieces dealing with her experiences with her magical thinking Spanish grandmother,  her search for home and belonging and connection.

Carol has been a lifelong civil servant in Canada’s capital. Daughter of a military attaché, she grew up all around the world, spending much of her childhood across Turkey and Switzerland. Since retiring, she has dedicated her time to writing memoir and short fiction and has found an incredible writing circle of inspiring women.

Work in Progress: Life Between Passports

For several years I have written individual essays about my family, travels, work and unexpected encounters. Only recently have I realised they are chapters of a larger story.

Life Between Passports follows my search for belonging as the daughter of a Canadian army officer and a European mother, through childhood on the move, years in Saudi Arabia, a career in Canadian health policy, and finally advocacy that helped change Canada's citizenship law for children born abroad.
